Pune: A 25-year-old software engineer from Junnar died, while his wife and six others sustained injuries. The injured are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Narayangaon.The car he was driving jumped the divider on the Pune-Nashik highway and collided with two cars coming from the opposite direction. This occurred near Narayangaon, about 80km from Pune, around 7pm on Sunday.An officer from the Narayangaon police said the deceased, Sanjay Khandagale of Golegaon in Junnar taluka, was driving from Narayangaon towards Manchar with his wife, Kirti (20). “It had been raining in the area since 6pm, leading to waterlogging on the highway. He may have lost control, causing it to jump the divider,” the officer said.The car rammed two vehicles travelling in the opposite direction. Six occupants of one of the other cars were also injured. All the injured were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared Khandagale dead on arrival.The officer said the accident led to traffic congestion on the highway for nearly half an hour. Police personnel, with the help of local residents, cleared the damaged vehicles from the road, following which traffic resumed.“We have registered an accidental death case, and further investigations are on,” the officer said.
