14-year-old boy killed after cement mixer truck hits bike in Maharashtra

Mira Road: A 14-year-old schoolboy was killed after the motorcycle he was travelling on with his father was hit by a speeding cement mixer truck near the Dahisar toll naka on Monday afternoon. The accident took place in front of Godavari Lodge. The deceased has been identified as Saurabh Vishwakarma.According to preliminary information, Saurabh was returning home with his father after school when the motorcycle was struck from behind by the cement mixer truck. The impact caused both Saurabh and his father to fall onto the road. Saurabh fell in such a way that his head came under the rear wheel of the truck. He suffered severe injuries and died on the spot, said Kashimira traffic division senior inspector Prufulla Wagh.Saurabh’s father, who was riding the motorcycle without a helmet, also sustained injuries in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.Police said CCTV footage obtained after the accident confirmed that the motorcycle was travelling along the left side of the cement mixer truck when the truck driver hit it. Saurabh, who was riding pillion, fell onto the road and the truck’s wheel ran over his head, resulting in his death.Following the CCTV footage, police ruled out earlier suspicion that the motorcycle had skidded due to a pothole. The accident was caused by the collision with the cement mixer truck, police said.Kashimira police have detained the truck driver, Sunil Rajbhar (43), and registered a case against him. Further investigation is underway, said Kashimira police station senior inspector Rajendra Kamble.
