Pune: A man was killed and three others were injured after the brakes of a cement-laden truck failed and hit a dumper, a truck and two motorcycles on the Pune-Kolad Road at Lavale Phata in Pirangut around 8.15am on Friday.Pimpri Chinchwad police identified the deceased as Laxman Kubal (52) of Pirangut. While the truck driver suffered a leg fracture, a man, identified as Nitin Bhilare of Kasar Amboli, was critically injured and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Lavale. One other person suffered minor injuries.An officer from Bavdhan police said the accident happened when the truck was carrying cement bags towards Pirangut. Prima facie investigations revealed that the brakes of the truck failed while descending the Pirangut ghat road. It first hit a truck and then a parked dumper.“The two motorcycles were caught between the three heavy vehicles. Kubal died on the spot, while Bhilare suffered serious injuries,” the officer said.He said a case of causing death by negligence was being registered against the driver of the cement-laden truck. “Our investigations are on,” he said.
