Ahmedabad: A team of Customs officials at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport nabbed a couple with gold and other valuables worth Rs 32.37 lakh on Sunday.“Based on intelligence developed through passenger profiling, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Ahmedabad Customs, intercepted one female passenger and one male passenger arriving from Sharjah to Ahmedabad on Sunday,” according to a release issued by the department.“On examination, the female passenger had concealed gold jewellery (gold bracelets, bangle, necklaces, chains, anklet and gold earrings) , total weighing 70.18 grams with purity 999 (24 Kt), and 149.25 grams with purity 750 (18Kt) having a total market value of Rs 29 lakh concealed inside her purse as well as worn on her body beneath her garments,” the release added.While, checking the baggage of the male passenger department officials found undeclared cosmetics (face bleach cream and cold relief oil), readymade garments, two laptops and one mobile phone, all worth approximately Rs 3 lakh.The goods were seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Investigators said that the duo hails from Kerala. “Further investigation is on to ascertain source and destination for the goods,” said an official.
