Kolkata: Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee on Monday moved Calcutta High Court challenging the freezing of his bank account. The matter will be heard on Aug 19.Banerjee’s counsel mentioned the case before a single bench of Justice Krishna Rao, stating the MP had plans to travel abroad for eye treatment following Supreme Court permission. HDFC has frozen Banerjee’s bank account without following due process, the counsel claimed.Replying to Justice Rao’s query on whether there is a pending criminal proceeding against Banerjee, his counsel submitted that he had been granted protection. It was also submitted that the account was frozen by the private bank of its own accord and not on police instruction.
