Pune: The anti-terrorism branch (ATB) of Pimpri Chinchwad police on Wednesday raided a cosmetics shop in Pimpri and seized unauthorised “Made in Pakistan” beauty cream.The police seized 23 containers of the cream, worth Rs12,650. They detained the 39-year-old shop owner and registered a case against him under Section 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Copyright Act for allegedly selling the banned cream.An officer from Pimpri Chinchwad ATB said police received a tip-off that the banned cream was being sold at a cosmetics shop in Pimpri. “We raided the shop and found the unauthorised cream being sold there. We seized 23 containers worth Rs12,650.”Centre had last year imposed a ban on all direct and indirect imports of goods originating from or exported by Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) recently flagged Goree Beauty Cream and another cream as unauthorised for import into India. “It contained excessive levels of heavy metals beyond specified limits. These metals could pose health risks,” they had stated.The state Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had also declared the cream and two other cosmetic products substandard and ordered action against their sale and distribution.In June this year, a bedsheet bearing a “Made in Pakistan” tag was found being sold in Chinchwad. A woman who had purchased the bedsheet posted a video of it on social media, following which the Pimpri Chinchwad police launched an investigation. The police have appealed to the public to approach the ATB if they notice “Made in Pakistan” products being sold in the market.
