Ahmedabad: Union home minister Amit Shah will launch and lay the foundation stones for public projects worth around Rs 405 crore at Vigyan Bhavan in Science City on Sunday morning. The event is part of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s mass plantation drive under the ‘Mission Five Million Tree’ initiative.Shah, who is also the Lok Sabha MP from Gandhinagar, will arrive at the venue around 9am. After the welcome ceremony, he and other dignitaries will plant saplings under the ‘Green Gandhinagar Lok Sabha’ initiative.Shah will virtually inaugurate 101 oxygen parks and heritage parks developed by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the state govt.The programme will also include virtual foundation stone-laying ceremonies for projects by AMC, Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) and the state roads and buildings department. Several MoUs are also expected to be signed in Shah’s presence.According to AMC, 22.7 lakh saplings have been planted across 9.7 lakh sq m in 101 parks in Ahmedabad city. Of these, 61 parks fall within the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha area, where nearly 16 lakh saplings have been planted across 6.44 lakh sq m.Shah will also flag off AMTS and BRTS buses at the event. Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd has approved the procurement of 325 electric AC buses for AMTS and BRTS under the gross cost contract model. In the first phase, 80 electric AC buses will be deployed on BRTS routes.
