Pune: NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule on Monday said just the resignation of chief election commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar would not be enough and the entire election process required scrutiny, which could start from her Baramati Lok Sabha seat.“The entire election process, from the electoral rolls to EVMs and other elements, requires an impartial scrutiny. Even if I have been winning the Baramati seat, I suggest starting the scrutiny from there to bring transparency in the most important democratic process of the country,” Supriya said. The first Pawar versus Pawar battle on the poll turf was in Baramati during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Supriya contested on an NCP (SP) ticket and comfortably defeated NCP’s Sunetra Pawar, the wife of late Ajit Pawar, by over 1.5 lakh votes. Supriya said she was ready for the scrutiny of voters in Baramati seat.“I do not want to only point fingers at others. I am also ready to undergo the scrutiny. I suggest the election commission select two assembly constituencies under the Baramati Lok Sabha seat, one in which I got the lead and the other one in which I trailed. For example, I got comparatively less votes in the Khadakwasla assembly constituency, where 2.5 lakh voters were reduced before the Lok Sabha polls. There was an increase of 50,000 voters during the assembly polls held nearly six months later (in 2024),” Supriya said. The Baramati MP said names of 2.5 lakh voters were deleted in the Khadakwasla assembly constituency during the SIR process. “There could be duplication of voters or some people might have shifted. I am not blaming anybody. I am only demanding transparency in the process starting from my own constituency,” Supriya said.About the ongoing protest in New Delhi in which she also participated with other INDIA bloc members, Supriya said chief election commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar should step down. She said, “Election Commission of India is an independent body, but so many citizens are hitting streets questioning its objectivity. The election commissioner should take some moral responsibility and step down.”
