Ahmedabad: A domestic help allegedly stole cash and jewellery worth Rs 27.5 lakh from a house in Chandkheda on Monday after obtaining the house keys from a neighbour on the pretext of cleaning the premises. The entire theft at the house in Serenity Space Society was allegedly carried out in just 10 minutes. Chandkheda police said society CCTV footage shows him entering the house empty-handed and leaving around 10 minutes later carrying two bags.The complainant, who runs a hair studio in Bopal, had hired the domestic help recently. Police said as the family’s regular housemaid had gone to Rajasthan, the complainant posted a message on the society’s WhatsApp group seeking a domestic help. A society resident introduced the man, who started working at the house. At times, his brother-in-law too accompanied him for work.Investigators said the complainant and his family went out of town leaving the house keys with a neighbour. On the day of the theft, the accused allegedly collected the keys from the neighbour, entered the house and broke open a locker.When the complainant returned home later that night, he discovered Rs 7 lakh in cash besides and gold and silver ornaments missing. The total value of the stolen property was put at Rs 27.5 lakh. The accused switched off both his mobile phones.Chandkheda police have registered a case against the domestic help and his relative.
