Panaji: Goa has secured central govt approval for six tourism infrastructure projects over the last two financial years under various ministry of tourism schemes.The projects are part of 117 tourism infrastructure projects worth Rs 5,756.6 crore approved across the country in 2024-25 and 2025-26.The details were tabled in a Lok Sabha reply by Union tourism minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.The biggest allocation for Goa is Rs 97.4 crore under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme for the development of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Ponda. Under the same scheme, Rs 90.7 crore has been sanctioned for developing a town square in Porvorim as a tourism and recreational hub.The state has also received Rs 16.4 crore under the Prashad (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme for infrastructure development at the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa.Under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, two destination-based tourism projects have been approved: the Porvorim Creek Experience (Rs 24 crore) and the Colva Beach Experience (Rs 19.8 crore).Additionally, Goa has secured Rs 9.8 crore under the Challenge-Based Destination Development Scheme for the beautification and development of Harvalem Waterfall in Mayem village.“The Ministry of Tourism has undertaken several initiatives during the last two years to promote tourism through infrastructure development, digital promotion and expansion of basic amenities across the country,” the release read.
