Kolkata: The city may receive light to moderate rain and thunderstorms on Sunday under the impact of monsoon currents and a seasonal trough that extends from Punjab to Bihar across Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. A bulletin issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre said that “in view of the favourable wind pattern and strong moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, thunderstorms and heavy rain, with extremely heavy rain in some parts, are likely across north Bengal.”South Bengal will receive light rain and thunderstorms till June 26. “Monsoon currents remain weak but they are active. Monsoon rain and thunderstorms will continue across south Bengal. North and South 24 Parganas, along with East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia and East and West Burdwan may receive thunderstorms on Sunday. While Kolkata is likely to receive rain, the time of the showers is not clear,” said weather scientist Sourish Bandopadhyay. The maximum temperature hit 34°C in Kolkata on Saturday.
