Surat: Minister of State for Health Praful Panseriya has directed the Food and Drugs Department and health officials across all districts to take strict action against establishments manufacturing duplicate or adulterated food products.Panseriya held a virtual meeting with officials from Surat during his visit to the city. Officials from all districts participated in the meeting to review enforcement measures, food sampling drives and preparedness of emergency services.Panseriya cited instances of duplicate ghee and adulterated ingredients being used in products such as analogue paneer, cheese, butter, tomato sauce, mango juice and palm oil, stressing the need for stringent enforcement to protect consumers.The minister warned that manufacturers misleading consumers by selling products labelled as “ghee” despite containing palm oil would face legal action. He said no manufacturer involved in such practices would be spared.He also directed officials to ensure strict adherence to hygiene standards and standard operating procedures (SOPs) at hotels, restaurants and food streets. FIRs should be registered with police assistance against those found tampering with sealed food products, he said.
