Pune: The state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) arrested an assistant police inspector attached to Loni Kalbhor police station for allegedly demanding a Rs 2.5 lakh bribe and accepting Rs 50,000 late on Tuesday night in Manjari near Hadapsar.The arrested officer was identified as Krushna Janardhan Babar (45), a resident of Manjari. The ACB has registered a case against him at Hadapsar police station.According to the ACB, the Loni Kalbhor police had registered a cheating case against a 57-year-old man and his son from Hadapsar, which Babar was investigating. The man, who is also the complainant in the bribery case, approached Babar a few days ago and requested him to submit the chargesheet in court at the earliest.“Babar allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 to expedite the filing of the chargesheet and another Rs 2 lakh to help the accused obtain anticipatory bail and provide further assistance in the case,” an ACB official said.The complainant handed over Rs 50,000 to Babar on Tuesday night, following which ACB officials caught the officer red-handed.
