Chennai: A man murdered his 24-year-old wife by slitting her throat while she was driving their autorickshaw near Ambattur on Tuesday night.Police identified the deceased as Devaki, wife of Chinna, 34, of Indira Nagar Menambedu. The couple had fallen in love before marrying, and have two daughters and a son. Chinna, an autorickshaw driver, had taught driving to Devaki too.The couple had been picking quarrels over Devaki’s interactions with male friends on social media. Following a quarrel, Devaki had recently moved to her mother’s house in Thirumullaivoyal. Chinna later found out that she was involved with one of the men she had befriended on social media, the police said.On Tuesday night, Chinna persuaded Devaki to return home, telling her they should stay together for the sake of their three children. After speaking to her for nearly two hours, he asked her to drive the autorickshaw, saying he would sit in the passenger seat. When they reached a secluded area in Ambattur, he pulled out a concealed knife and slit her throat before fleeing the spot.Passersby who found Devaki lying on road in a pool of blood alerted the Puthur police. A police team led by inspector Sadaiyandi reached the spot rushed her to the hospital where she was declared dead. Using the autorickshaw’s registration number, police traced Chinna to Kamarajapuram, behind Ambattur police station, around midnight. He was drinking with friends and had not told them about the murder.Police arrested Chinna. Further investigation is on.
