PUNE: The Warje police have registered a case of forgery against a woman software engineer and her parents, residents of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly preparing a fake birth certificate, Aadhaar card and other documents for her 14-year-old daughter and using them to apply for a passport. The forged documents were allegedly prepared between 2023 and 2024 in Pune and Ghazipur, police said. The woman’s estranged husband (42), a resident of Warje, lodged a complaint with the Warje police on Saturday.According to the police, the woman submitted the forged documents to a school in Warje where her daughter is studying.Police said the couple had a love marriage. “The complainant is a native of Karad in Satara district, where their daughter was born. However, the couple has been living separately for the past five years owing to marital differences,” an officer from Warje police said.“The woman decided to remove her estranged husband’s name from her daughter’s records. To do so, she procured a fake birth certificate from Ghazipur and used it to obtain a fake Aadhaar card and other identity documents in her daughter’s name,” he added.According to the police, the woman used the forged documents to update her daughter’s school records and obtain an Aadhaar card and other identity proofs based on the fake birth certificate.“She later used these documents to apply for her daughter’s passport,” the officer said. The complainant subsequently learnt about the alleged forgery, collected the relevant documents and approached the police.“The woman misled not only the school authorities but also govt agencies responsible for issuing key identity documents, including the Aadhaar card, PAN card and passport,” he added.
