MUMBAI: Union minister Ramdas Athawale on Tuesday spoke to the parents of IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode, who died by suicide, and assured them that justice would be delivered.Athawale also said action should be taken against those responsible for the student’s death, as the Mumbai Police Crime Branch continues its investigation.“We will definitely ensure justice for your son,” the minister told Sahil’s father Ravindra Wakode during a phone call.Athawale said action should be taken against those responsible for the suicide and that the Crime Branch was conducting a thorough investigation into the case.
Sahil’s parents on hunger strike at Azad Maidan
Sahil’s parents are currently on a hunger strike at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, demanding justice for their son.The family has been seeking action in connection with the circumstances surrounding Sahil’s death and has demanded the arrest of Prof Suryanarayana Doolla, who has been named in the FIR alleging caste discrimination and abetment to suicide.The parents have also said that no member of the inquiry panel constituted by IIT Bombay to probe Sahil’s death has contacted them so far. They have sought greater action and accountability in the case.
Sahil Wakode death case
Sahil, 22, a second-year student at IIT Bombay, was found hanging in his hostel room on the evening of September 18, hours after he was allegedly caught using his mobile phone to access ChatGPT during a mid-semester examination.The Mumbai Police Crime Branch is investigating the alleged abetment to suicide case, while an inquiry committee has also been constituted by IIT Bombay to examine the circumstances surrounding his death.(With PTI inputs)
