Surat: Amid moderate rainfall to thundershowers forecast over parts of south Gujarat, the water level at Ukai dam has been rising rapidly due to sustained rainfall in its catchment areas, pushing the reservoir close to its rule level.Officials said Ukai’s water level has reached 334.90 ft against the current rule level of 335 ft, indicating that the dam is nearing the operational threshold set for this time of the season. The inflow into the reservoir was reported at 37,540 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 23,120 cusecs, reflecting a continued net rise in storage. The water is released to hydropower plants.The estimated water storage in Ukai dam is around 5,015.76 million cubic metres, nearly 74% of the dam’s total capacity. With additional rainfall expected across the region, dam authorities and disaster management teams have stepped up monitoring to ensure timely regulation of releases and to minimise downstream risks.In Surat district, rain in and around the city has added pressure on local drainage channels. The outflow recorded at the weir-cum-causeway on river Tapi in the city was 54,881 cusecs, with water flowing at a level of 6.90m Authorities have been tracking these readings alongside river and reservoir levels to manage potential surges.
