Ulhasnagar: A Food and Drug Administration officer was injured after he was allegedly pushed by a man during a raid on the premises where banned gutka and other tobacco products were being stored in Ulhasnagar. Following the incident, the Hill Line police have registered a case against two persons, seized banned tobacco products worth Rs 2.57 lakh, and have launched a hunt for the accused.An official said that, acting on a tip-off about the illegal stock, a team of FDA and police conducted a raid near Barrack No. 1865 in Section 39 of Ulhasnagar Camp 5. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner Arvind Khadke of FDA.During the raid, food safety officer Sumit Dafde was allegedly pushed by Sonu alias Purushottam Gopaldas Rohra, causing him to fall to the ground and sustain injuries to both legs.According to police, the raid led to the seizure of various brands of pan masala, zafrani zarda, flavoured tobacco, and chewing tobacco valued at Rs 2,57,904. Police also seized Rs 4.25 lakh in cash from the premises. The total value of the seized tobacco products and cash was Rs 6,82,904.Following the raid, a case was registered at Hill Line police station on the complaint of FDA officer Ranjit Mane under various sections of the law. Police identified the accused as Sonu alias Purushottam Gopaldas Rohra and his wife, Paribai Gopaldas Rohra. The police have launched a hunt for the accused.
