Chennai: A 32-year-old meat shop worker was beaten to death by his friends near Somangalam in Kancheepuram district on Wednesday night.The victim, Rajesh of Sethuputtu near Somangalam, was married and had two children. Police said Thangam and Anandajothi, who lived in the same locality, took him in a car on Wednesday night to consume alcohol.When Rajesh failed to return home, his family began searching for him. On Thursday morning, Thangam and Anandajothi surrendered at the Somangalam police station and confessed to killing him. They told police that the three consumed alcohol at a vacant site along the Somangalam-Sethuputtu Road. An argument broke out after Rajesh made obscene remarks about women in their families.The two men attacked him with a stone and an iron rod, killing him Police recovered Rajesh’s body and sent it to the Tambaram Govt Hospital for postmortem.A murder case was registered, and police are investigating whether the offensive remarks were the sole motive or whether there were other reasons behind the killing.
