Surgeon vice admiral Manish Honwad new AFMC director, commandant
Surgeon Vice Admiral Manish Honwad has been appointed as the Director and Head (Commandant) of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC)

Pune: Surgeon vice admiral Manish Honwad assumed charge as the new director and commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, on Tuesday.An AFMC alumnus, Honwad completed his MBBS in 1989 and MD in anaesthesiology and critical care medicine in 1998. He is also a WHO fellow in neuro-anaesthesiology from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans), Bengaluru.He holds an MPhil in public administration from the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New DelhiWith over 37 years of experience in service, Honwad has held several prestigious academic, clinical and administrative positions. These include additional director general medical services (Navy) at Naval Headquarters and commanding officer of INHS Sanjivani and INHS Asvini.A certified healthcare simulation educator from the society for simulation in healthcare, USA, Honwad has been an international speaker on healthcare simulation at various conferences.He was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2025 for his distinguished service and contribution to patient care. He also received multiple commendations from the Chief of Naval Staff and Naval Command headquarters.
