Kolkata: Sinthi PS officer-in-charge Chameli Mukherjee was removed from the post within 48 hours of her appointment, with Kolkata Police replacing her with Shrinkhala Sharma, the OC of Amherst Street Women’s PS. Mukherjee will now be the Amherst Street Women’s PS OC. This comes barely two days after KP commissioner Ajay Nanda issued transfer orders for 33 inspector-rank officers on Thursday as part of a broader administrative exercise.Mukherjee’s posting at Sinthi, along with Rupa Singh’s appointment as OC of Sarsuna PS, was seen as a significant move to place woman officers in charge of police stations after a long gap.A 2004-batch officer, Mukherjee has served in 12 police stations across Kolkata and is considered an experienced officer. Her sudden removal, despite the recent appointment, has raised questions within the dept. Senior officers, however, said it was an administrative decision.
