Navi Mumbai: The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) general body approved the three-tier bonus – Rs 10,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 35,000 for its employees on Friday. The Rs 15,000 category is specifically for the teachers. The highest bonus is for the officers, whereas the lowest is for the grassroots-level health, livelihood, awas (housing) scheme workers. Overall, 1,358 staffers will be benefitted. The PCMC house leader, advocate Prakash Binedar, moved the bonus motion in the house, which was unanimously approved. The bonus for 2025-26 was declared four years after the elected body came to power. For the last four years, the decision was taken by the administrator, ie, the municipal commissioner. The elected body’s decision this year hiked the amount from that of last year. The bonus will benefit three officers on deputation, 817 staffers on the rolls, 66 primary teachers, two National Urban Livelihood Mission officers, 14 staffers on monthly remuneration, 219 National Urban Health Mission staffers besides 235 ASHA workers and others. The decision will inspire the employees towards better performance. The bonus on a slab-wise basis differs from the one announced by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The NMMC has announced a uniform bonus payout by breaking with the traditional difference based on official position. The Raigad unit president of the Maharashtra State Municipal Council and Municipal Corporation Teachers Association, Pramod Langi, said, “The state government does not give bonuses to teachers. However, we have approached the political leadership of the PCMC a few years ago and thereafter the bonus started. The bonus amount stands around 20% of the payment made to officers now shot up to 35% this year. This is a welcome decision.”However, the wide difference between the officers and the workers has increased the dissatisfaction among many who indirectly press for a balance.
