MUMBAI: The Colaba police has arrested one of the two accused who allegedly submitted forged documents as sureties for an accused seeking bail in an MPID case before a Mumbai Sessions Court.Colaba police arrested Jaffar Shaikh and are looking for three more accomplices who have aided and abetted Shaikh in the crime. The complainant in the case is Amar Sudam Rokade, an interpreter attached to the city Sessions Court and the matter relates to MPID Special Sessions case. The original case was registered at Goregaon Police Station in June 2025 against four accused, including Deepak Kumar Dulichand Jain, under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Jain, who was arrested on June 27, 2025, was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on January 8, 2026, subject to furnishing a Rs 2 lakh surety bond and two local sureties. Accordingly, Anwar Sheikh and Arafat Sheikh were produced as sureties before Sessions Court No. 20.The two sureties submitted asset certificates purportedly issued and stamped by the Bhiwandi Tehsildar, along with Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, ration cards and tax receipts. The Sessions Court had directed the Bhiwandi Tehsildar’s office to verify the documents. However, a report received by the court on April 2, 2026, stated that the documents submitted in the names of Sheikh and Arafat had not been issued by the concerned office. The Police alleges that the two sureties knowingly produced false certificates and deceived the court. It further alleges that Jain, despite knowing that the documents were forged, used them to fulfil the bail conditions and submitted them as genuine before the court. The complaint also alleges that fake seals and stamps were affixed to the forged documents.
