Darjeeling: With frequent landslides, traffic jams and sudden closures on National Highway-10 during monsoon, the Kalimpong District Police on Monday launched an app, ‘NH10 Status’, for commuters and tourists to get real-time updates on the crucial route linking Siliguri with Sikkim, and the Darjeeling road network at Teesta Bazaar. The app offers live information on road conditions, traffic, diversions, and highway blockages.Deputy SP (traffic) Bishal Sarkar said the app currently covers the 52-km stretch of NH-10 between Setijhora and Atal Setu in Kalimpong district. “People can access real-time information on landslides, traffic jams, one-way traffic, road blockages, and other disruptions along NH-10 directly on their phones,” Sarkar said. The app was launched at Kalimpong Town Hall during the observance of the 125th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee. DM Kuhuk Bhushan, SP Aparajita Rai, MLA Bharat Chhetri, and other dignitaries were present.“Whenever a blinking red marker appears on the map, users can click on it to view complete details, including the exact location of the disruption, the reason for the blockage, whether traffic is moving in a single lane, if there are diversions, and the estimated time required for the road to reopen,” Sarkar said.
