Ahmedabad: More than 4,500 super specialty medical seats across various colleges in India, including Gujarat, continue to remain vacant as the second round of counselling has been put on hold. Earlier, on June 8, authorities announced the postponement of the second round. With the next court hearing scheduled for July 15, no further action is expected until then.Out of approximately 7,000 total seats, only around 2,500 were filled during the first round, leaving a significant number of vacancies. Despite a plan to complete both rounds of admissions by April, the delay extended into June, prompting Federation of Junior Doctors Association to urge central govt to restart the process at the earliest.The issue largely stems from Tamil Nadu, where unfilled seats were sought back by the Centre. State govt challenged this move in court. Medical experts noted that many doctors could not adequately prepare for the exams due to ongoing clinical duties, leading to lower qualifying scores. The court accepted Tamil Nadu’s plea and directed authorities to reduce the qualifying percentile.The matter will now be heard again on July 15. Until then, candidates aspiring for these seats must wait as the admission process remains stalled.Meanwhile, National Testing Agency (NTA) released the NEET answer key. Students can raise objections until June 30. Candidates eligible for refunds due to the cancelled May 3 exam must submit their bank details on the NTA portal. Incorrect details may result in failure to receive the refund, the agency clarified.
