Museum on wheels rolls into Ahmedabad, draws 500 visitors

Ahmedabad: Over 500 history buffs stepped inside a museum on wheels on Saturday, as two custom-designed exhibition buses rolled into the LD Museum campus. The travelling exhibition — a decade-old initiative by Citi and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS)— aims to break down gallery walls and take heritage straight to the masses. The current stop features ‘Networks of the Past: India and the Ancient World’, an exhibition shining a light on the intricate social fabric and artefacts of the Sindhu-Saraswati civilisation.“This exhibition on Sindhu-Saraswati civilization throws light on different aspects of the society and what we know about them through artefacts. It is part of the exhibition series ‘Networks of the Past: India and the Ancient World’ where earlier exhibitions also focused on different civilizations,” said an official.“The idea of a museum on wheels is that if you cannot come to the museum, it will come to you. The visitors will be able to see important artefacts and replicas associated with the famed civilisation up close with guided tour and hands-on activities,” said an official. The LD Museum had hosted an exhibition on ‘Ancient Sculptures: India, Egypt, Assyria, Greece, Rome’ in 2025.
