Navi Mumbai: Police have filed a case of murder against a 27-year-old e-commerce delivery worker after his former girlfriend, whom he allegedly stabbed multiple times at a bus stop near Nerul station on Tuesday for turning down his marriage proposal, died during treatment at Sion hospital the next day.Nerul police identified the deceased as Sadiya Jahir Shaikh (21), who worked as a private security staff at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), and the accused as Danish Mohammad Ansari, both residents of Antop Hill in Wadala.Police said the two had met while hospitalised during Covid in 2021 and later began a relationship. Shaikh had filed non-cognisable complaints against Ansari in June and on Oct 14 following confrontations over marriage after she rejected him.On Tuesday, Ansari followed Shaikh by train from GTB Nagar to Nerul. Around 6.45am, when she was waiting for a bus to reach NMIA, he quarrelled with her over her rejection of his marriage proposal and his suspicion that she was seeing another man, before allegedly stabbing her repeatedly in the chest, abdomen, neck and back with a knife, said police sub-inspector Bipin Tuturwad. Ansari fled before people waiting at the bus stop could catch him.Tuturwad said, “Eyewitnesses took Shaikh in an autorickshaw to NMMC’s Meenatai Thackeray hospital in Nerul. Later, she was shifted to the ICU at NMMC hospital in Vashi, where her statement was recorded and an attempt to murder case was registered against Ansari.”Ansari was arrested from his brother-in-law’s Ghansoli residence around 12.30pm after police tracked his mobile tower location. Police also recovered the knife. “NMMC hospital referred Shaikh to Sion hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday around 10.30 am. Subsequently, we invoked BNS Section 103(1) for murder against Ansari.”On Wednesday, a Belapur court remanded him in police custody for seven days.
