Mumbai teen drowns in Powai lake, search operation underway

Mumbai: A 19-year-old boy drowned after he entered Powai Lake while playing with his brother on Thursday afternoon. His body was yet to be found, Powai police said.The tragedy took place after Kailash Soman, a resident of Filterpada, reached the lake with his brother. “We are gathering information about the boy. The exact circumstances leading to the incident are yet to be ascertained,” said a police officer of the Powai police station.The drowning was reported around 3.18 pm after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Mumbai Fire Brigade received information about it.According to officials, Kailash reportedly entered the lake and drowned, after which the Mumbai Fire Brigade immediately launched a search operation to trace him.Teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Powai police and BMC ward staff were rushed to the spot, and rescue personnel continued the search operation in the lake.Powai police said efforts to retrieve the body were underway. Further legal procedures and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, including why the victim visited the lake, will be initiated after the body is recovered.
