Chennai: Police arrested a 26-year-old man for posing as a police officer and robbing four private company employees of three expensive mobile phones at knifepoint in Singaperumal Koil in Chengalpet district.Police identified the accused as Dhanush, 26, of Sasthirambakkam near Singaperumal Koil. The stolen mobile phones, valued at about ₹1 lakh, were recovered from him. He was produced before a magistrate’s court in Chengalpet and remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.Mohan Kumar, 21, Ranjith Kumar and two other employees from Nagapattinam district were staying in a rented house in Thirutheri near Singaperumal Koil while working for a private company, police said. Late at night, Dhanush knocked on the door, identified himself as a police officer and claimed he had received information that ganja was being stored inside the house. He entered the premises and conducted a search.Police said the accused then took a knife from the kitchen, held it to Ranjith Kumar’s neck, threatened the occupants and robbed them of three high-end mobile phones. He fled immediately after the robbery.Based on a complaint lodged by Mohan Kumar, Singaperumal Koil police registered a case and examined CCTV footage from the neighbourhood. The footage helped investigators identify and trace the accused.Police said Dhanush had more than 10 criminal cases registered against him at stations including Maraimalai Nagar and Palur.
