Surat: A 32-year-old man has been booked by Dindoli police for allegedly abetting his wife’s suicide after her father accused him of subjecting her to prolonged physical and mental harassment.According to the complaint filed by Shravanram Choudhary, 54, his daughter Mamta married Sohan in 2008 according to community customs. The couple later had two children, now aged 15 and 13.Choudhary alleged that Sohan had been physically and mentally harassing Mamta for several years.The couple moved to Surat in 2017 in search of work, while their children remained in Rajasthan for their education. After renting for several years, they shifted to their own house in June 2026 and organised a housewarming ceremony that was also attended by Mamta’s parents.During visits and conversations, Mamta told her parents about the harassment. Family members counselled her to continue the relationship in the hope that the situation would improve.On Sep 21, Mamta made a video call to her parents in Rajasthan and again complained about the alleged harassment.On Sep 24, a villager informed the family that Mamta had died. Her relatives rushed to Surat and learned that she had died by suicide. Sohan later told the family that she had slit her own throat.After the funeral in their village in Rajasthan, Choudhary approached police and alleged that his daughter had been driven to suicide by her husband.Dindoli police registered a case against Sohan and started an investigation.
