Malaysian woman held for counterfeit currency racket case in Chennai

Chennai: A Malaysian woman was arrested in Chennai on Friday in connection with an investigation into a counterfeit currency racket, taking the total number of arrests in the case to three. Police said fake currency notes with a face value of nearly ₹34 lakh were seized during the investigation.The case came to light after police conducted a search at a hostel on Tassudin Khan Street in Triplicane on July 15. During the search, police seized counterfeit currency notes with a face value of ₹11 lakh in ₹500, ₹200 and ₹100 denominations.Following the raid, police arrested Shafeeq Rahman, 37. The trail led to the arrest of Ravichandran, 41, a native of Thanjavur, on July 16. Police said counterfeit currency notes with a face value of ₹22.79 lakh and ₹7,500 were seized from him.Based on further investigation, police arrested Bhuvaneshwari, 48, a Malaysian national, on Saturday for her suspected role in the counterfeit currency network. Her passport and mobile phone were seized for examination.
