Ahmedabad: A team of doctors in the city gave a new lease of life to a premature baby born via normal delivery at just 26 weeks of pregnancy, weighing only 760 grams at birth. After 80 days of intensive treatment, the baby was discharged from hospital after attaining 1.67kg weight, said officials.Dr Munjal Kapadia, in charge, NICU at GCS Hospital, said that the baby’s condition at birth was fragile with very low heartrate. “The baby was resuscitated and was provided emergency life support, CPR and medications. The baby also had premature lung development along with severe infection and meningitis,” he said.A bleeding in the brain at about 1.5 months was detected and treated immediately. After 80 days, the baby is breastfeeding and is on path of normal life, added doctors.
