Ahmedabad: Thousands of citizens are expected to participate in special events organised to mark the International Day of Yoga on Sunday morning. Union home minister Amit Shah will participate in an event in western Ahmedabad with top BJP leaders, while chief minister Bhupendra Patel will participate in a state-level celebration at Mansa in Gandhinagar district where over 4,000 citizens are likely to participate.Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi earlier said that about 24,000 events were planned at schools, colleges, corporate offices, industries, public parks and public places to mark the day. “In the run-up to the event, 1.3 crore citizens have been trained in the basics of yoga, and sector-specific 12 events have been planned for women, senior citizens and farmers, among others,” he said.On Friday, about 5,000 participated in an event at GIFT City, while another major event was organised at Gujarat Police Academy in Karai. Several city-based organisations and NGOs have also planned yoga practice and demonstration at places such as Sabarmati Riverfront, Kankaria Lakefront, universities and public places. In Maninagar, a group will perform water yoga. Trained instructors have also organised yoga sessions at various gardens in the city.
