Surat: A case of domestic abuse and cyber harassment has emerged where Amroli police have booked a 25-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his wife and minor daughter before posting morphed, obscene images of his wife on social media to defame her.Police said the accused assaulted his 25-year-old wife and their seven-year-old daughter, forcing them out of their home late at night and issuing death threats.According to the complaint, the couple married in 2018 and had a daughter in 2019. The woman alleged that her husband began abusing and beating her after the marriage.On March 27, the accused allegedly assaulted their daughter brutally, after which both mother and child were forced to leave the house around midnight. He warned them not to return, threatening to kill them if they did.In April, the accused allegedly escalated the harassment by morphing images of his wife and circulating them online. He reportedly took screenshots from pornographic content, morphed them with the victim’s image and created reels with abusive captions, which he posted on his Instagram status.Police said he also used the couple’s personal photographs, edited them with images of another person, and shared them. In addition, he allegedly morphed a leading Odia-language newspaper article by inserting obscene images of his wife.Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and the IT Act for cruelty, obscene acts, criminal intimidation and other offences. A probe is underway.
