GCCI pledges industry support to help build knowledge economy under Goa AI Policy

Panaji: The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) said that the newly announced Goa AI Policy and the Goa AI Mission 2027 are critical, forward-looking initiatives that can diversify the state’s economy beyond tourism and establish a knowledge-driven ecosystem in Goa.GCCI president Pratima Dhond appreciated the policy’s strategic provisions, particularly the allocation of a Rs 250 crore Innovation Fund spread over five years and the target to train 50,000 AI-ready professionals by 2030. Dhond specifically praised the mandate to ensure 20% participation of women in this workforce development initiative.“The chamber will actively collaborate with govt agencies to set up dedicated industry sandboxes, drive AI integration across local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and build strong linkages for regional technology startups,” said Dhond. The industry body said that the policy’s focus on establishing three specialised Centres of Excellence (CoEs) tailored to coastal and environmental systems, healthcare and life sciences, and tourism will help diversify the state’s economy and human resource pool.Dhond said the policy’s structured approach demonstrates regulatory maturity by balancing technological innovation with citizen safety and data ethics. She added that the AI Policy framework is uniquely suited for a state where land is scarce for industrial units and large technology parks.
