Pune: The civic general body (GB) has approved two crucial proposals for road works to help streamline traffic flow in Warje, Sinhagad Road and Karvenagar areas, while also sanctioning one to acquire land needed for the service road along the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is likely to spend Rs9.6 crore as compensation to finish pending works of the 12m-wide service road in Warje. The stretch would reduce overall traffic chaos in the area and local commuters would be able to avoid travelling on the main bypass. The GB approved a proposal that includes development of approach roads for the newly constructed Suncity to Karvenagar bridge on Mutha river and acquire land needed to develop the30m-wide DP Road to decongest traffic on Sinhagad Road.Road department officials said the PMC has been pushing to complete unfinished road stretches as well as works of missing links in various areas to streamline traffic. Around 12 missing links were expected to get a major boost this year, with the administration holding talks with land owners to get the plots. On two proposals cleared by the GB, an official said, “Commuters will get direct access from the bypass towards the Dukkar Khind area with the Warje service road. The PMC is building service roads that are coming up along the service lanes developed by NHAI.” Commuters from Warje, Bavdhan, Sus and Wadgaon areas have demanded that the PMC develop and maintain service roads along the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass.Meanwhile, corporator Haridas Charvad of the Sinhagad Road area said people are unhappy with the poor condition of service roads and encroachments. “We have been urging the administration to device a plan to ensure obstacle-free service lanes along the highway,” he said.Leader of the house in PMC Ganesh Bidkar said the GB has cleared all key proposals of infra works without delays. “We are taking decisions in favour of roads and other public works to provide better services to citizens. Some more decisions are likely to be cleared in the next few days,” he added.
