Kolkata: An engineering graduate allegedly murdered his father after being denied money for a vacation. The accused, Rajoshree Roychowdhury alias Gopal (30), has been arrested and has reportedly confessed to the crime during police interrogation.According to investigators, Gopal had asked his father, Ranjan Roychowdhury (59), for money to go on a trip. When his father refused, Gopal allegedly attacked him repeatedly on the head with a gym exercise instrument, killing him on the spot.Police said the accused kept the body inside the house for three days before stuffing it into a large blue travel bag. He then hired a vehicle, allegedly paying the driver extra money, and dumped the bag containing the body at a garbage disposal site in Moylapota.The highly decomposed body was recovered on the night of June 22, but the victim’s identity initially remained unknown. The following day, the body was sent for post-mortem.A senior cop said that on the night of June 23, local residents approached the police with a photograph, suspecting that the deceased was a resident of Milanpally. Neighbours had complained of a foul smell coming from the house for several days, while the victim had not been seen. Whenever questioned, the accused allegedly told neighbours that his father had gone to Dubai.Following the lead, Sonarpur PS officer in-charge Ashish Das formed two investigation teams. One team was sent to the victim’s residence at Milanpally, while the other proceeded to the body recovery site at Moylapota.During the search of the house, police found two elderly women, both reportedly suffering from mental illness. A locked room revealed bloodstains on the floor and walls, along with several exercise instruments suspected to have been used in the murder.Investigators later identified the deceased as Ranjan Roychowdhury, the owner of the house and a businessman who frequently travelled to Dubai for work. CCTV footage helped police trace the hired vehicle. After questioning the driver, investigators arrested Gopal on July 3.During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that he killed his father after being refused money for the trip.A senior investigating officer said, “We are certain that the murder took place before June 20.”
