NEW DELHI: Soon after announcing his resignation as Union education minister on Saturday, Dharmendra Pradhan updated his X profile, removing the designation “Union Minister” from his bio.The reaction came hours after Pradhan stepped down from the Narendra Modi government amid the nationwide Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led agitation over the alleged NEET paper leak.Pradhan’s X profile now identifies him only as “MP (LS), Sambalpur. Views personal. RTs not endorsement,” reflecting his resignation from the Union Cabinet.

Earlier in the day, Pradhan announced his resignation through a letter addressed to the country’s youth, saying he had decided to step down to ensure that students’ futures were not affected by the ongoing controversy and that the situation was not exploited by “anti-national elements”.

He also said he had taken responsibility for the issue from the very beginning and had never turned away from it.His resignation came after weeks of nationwide protests spearheaded by the CJP, which had made the education minister’s exit its principal demand over the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination.Following Pradhan’s resignation, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke urged supporters not to celebrate any individual victory, saying, “I am not a hero,” and credited students and citizens across the country for sustaining the movement.Later, after a third round of talks with the Centre, the CJP announced that it was withdrawing its agitation “in good faith” and appealed to protesters to return home peacefully.The joint press conference also concluded, saying the government’s acceptance of the party’s key demand had opened the way for further reforms.
