Cybercrook dupes tailor from Pune Cantonment of Rs5 lakh

Pune: A 35-year-old tailor from the Pune Cantonment area lost Rs5 lakh to a cybercrook posing as an official of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC).The crook took the money from the tailor under the pretext of a security deposit in Aug last year. The complainant filed an online complaint and following an inquiry, the Cantonment police registered a case on Thursday.According to the police, the complainant received a call from an unknown person claiming to be an official of the Armed Forces Medical College, and placed an order to stitch 41 blazers.“Caller asked the tailor to pay a security deposit, assuring him it would be refunded after the order was completed. Believing the caller, the tailor transferred Rs5 lakh to a UPI ID. The crook withdrew the money and duped him,” the officer said.
