Pune: From encroachments to uneven or asymmetrical footpaths, potholes and poor road conditions, the Pune traffic branch has identified 60 infrastructure and related issues contributing to congestion across its 30 divisions. The police plan to submit a detailed report to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), seeking corrective action.Each traffic division was tasked with identifying at least two key causes of congestion within its jurisdiction a fortnight back. Based on their assessment of major roads and junctions, the divisions compiled findings highlighting the factors responsible for traffic bottlenecks.Additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil told TOI that the department would approach PMC with the report to push for necessary infrastructure improvements. “Resolving these issues can significantly ease traffic congestion. If the problems fall under the jurisdiction of other authorities, such as gram panchayats, the public works department or the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), we will coordinate with them as well,” he said.The police have recommended measures including patching pothole, correcting faulty road dividers, redesigning footpaths and removing encroachments. Specific suggestions include installing signals at Tulapur Phata and Kesnand in Wagholi, reducing the size of the traffic island at Parnakuti Chowk, widening an internal road in Dhanori and repairing damaged road surfaces in Santnagar, Lohegaon, an officer said.Other proposals include installing a road divider on Pune-Nagar Road in Chandannagar, clearing encroachments on Pune-Mumbai Road in Khadki and Ferguson College Road, closing illegal openings in dividers at ABC Chowk on North Main Road in Mundhwa, and shifting PMPML bus stops near Sancheti Hospital Chowk.The police have also suggested restricting heavy vehicle movement between Radha Hotel Chowk on the Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass, ensuring proper footpath alignment along Bajirao Road and Shivaji Road, and installing rumble strips and improving footpaths in areas like Warje.
