NNEW DELHI: Security has been tightened across New Delhi district ahead of a protest march by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on September 5.The march will begin at India Gate and culminate at the Police Headquarters on Jai Singh Marg near Jantar Mantar, police sources said on Tuesday, according to news agency PTI.Delhi Police has enhanced security arrangements in and around Jantar Mantar, where additional personnel have been deployed and barricading has been put in place as a precautionary measure ahead of the proposed march, the sources said.The CJP has announced plans to march from India Gate to the Police Headquarters, but police have not granted permission for the proposed protest so far.A police source said authorities have not received any request or permission letter from the CJP seeking approval to hold the march.The security arrangements have been intensified as the proposed demonstration coincides with heightened security requirements in the national capital ahead of the BRICS Summit.Security has been stepped up not only in the New Delhi district but also in parts of central Delhi in view of the summit, the source said.The Jantar Mantar area, a designated protest site located near several key government offices, has also been placed under heightened security.Police personnel have been deployed at strategic points, while movement around sensitive areas is being closely monitored as part of the security arrangements.Further security measures are likely to be put in place by the police as the date of the proposed march approaches.(With agency inputs)
