NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Thursday reacted to the Bar Council of India’s decision to halt the enrolment of 2026 graduates from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, until further orders.Sharing a post on X referencing the BCI directive, Dipke wrote, “What if all legal cockroaches come together?” without elaborating further.The remark came after reports emerged that the BCI had directed all State Bar Councils not to enrol any 2026 NALSAR graduate as an advocate pending further examination of an alleged organised campaign linked to the university’s convocation.The BCI has also sought a factual report from NALSAR regarding persons allegedly involved in initiating and organising a campaign concerning the participation of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant in the university’s convocation ceremony.According to news agency PTI, BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said the Council had taken note of reports and material available in the public domain regarding an organised campaign at NALSAR relating to the proposed participation or invitation of the Chief Justice of India. The university’s Vice-Chancellor has been asked to submit an authenticated factual report within three days.The Council has directed NALSAR to identify, on the basis of verifiable material, individuals who were principally involved in initiating, drafting, circulating, coordinating or mobilising the campaign.It has also sought details of those involved in organising meetings, communicating with the media, administering social media groups used for coordination, or mobilising calls for boycott, obstruction, disruption or organised non-participation in the convocation or related programmes.Further, the BCI has asked the university to provide details of any student body, Student Bar Council, Students’ Union or other recognised student organisation involved in initiating, approving, coordinating or circulating the campaign. The Council has also sought information on the involvement of any faculty member, research scholar, alumnus or outsider.The communication additionally seeks copies of resolutions, meeting records and other official documents related to the matter, along with details on whether permission was sought or granted for any protest or organised activity.At the same time, the BCI clarified that participation in a representation or campaign would not automatically lead to disqualification from enrolment. It said a distinction must be maintained between individuals who merely signed or supported a representation and those who organised or coordinated the campaign or mobilised an actual boycott, obstruction or disruption, according to news agency PTI.The Council said the matter would be taken up on August 19 after receipt of the Vice-Chancellor’s report. The communication has been issued to NALSAR as well as the secretaries of all State Bar Councils for compliance.(With Agency Inputs)
