MUMBAI: A man seated pillion on a two-wheeler died while the rider was severely injured in a road crash at Marve Road in Malad on Monday.Malwani Police said the deceased fell from the two-wheeler and then came under the wheel of a BEST bus that was coming up from behind. So, an FIR will be registered against the bus driver for negligence. The crash was reported on Monday around 1pm near Rathodi bus-stop. The wet lease bus (A-272) was moving from Malad railway station towards Marve beach.“Footage from the front-facing camera of the bus revealed that an autorickshaw, moving on the left side of the road, suddenly turned right. A two-wheeler passing by collided with the rickshaw. The motorcyclist lost his balance & then crashed into the bus, which was moving alongside. The impact threw the pillion rider into the path of the bus,” said a BEST spokesperson. The pillion rider was identified as Saiful Baidya, 41. He suffered severe injuries after coming under the wheel of the bus.The bus driver, 51-year-old Dilip Vishwakarma, brought the vehicle to a halt as Baidya was trapped beneath the wheel. The bus conductor, Prakash Surve (40), and the driver assisted the police who were summoned. After the bus was reversed, Baidya was extricated and rushed via ambulance to Shatabdi Hospital.Medical personnel at Shatabdi Hospital declared the victim dead upon arrival at 2 pm, noting severe trauma, including head injuries and limb fractures.BEST claimed “it was not the fault of the BEST driver as the two wheeler lost balance before coming into contact with the bus.”Police personnel said they went through all the evidence before deciding that an FIR would be registered against the driver as the wheels of the bus ran over Baidya.
