MUMBAI: BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has written to Mumbai Police seeking an inquiry into actor Imran Khan’s participation in a CJP agitation in Mumbai, questioning whether the foreign citizen had obtained the necessary permission to participate in the protest.In his post on X, Somaiya stated, “I wrote to Mumbai Police to check Foreign Citizen Actor Imran Khan participated in today’s CJP agitation, which didn’t have permission. He was detained.”Raising questions about the actor’s participation, Somaiya further asked, “Can a foreign citizen allowed to do such illegal things!!!?? Participate in a Political Agitation?”Somaiya also shared a letter addressed to Manoj Kumar Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, requesting an inquiry and appropriate action in the matter. The letter, dated October 10, 2026, refers to Imran Khan’s participation in the agitation and asks whether he had obtained permission to take part in the protest.The letter also refers to the actor’s remarks before he was detained by police.Imran Khan stated, “I don’t have demands. I am here as a citizen, as a person who lives in this city. I am here to see why freedom of movement is being restricted. Why are people’s voices being suppressed? That is why I am here.”Somaiya tagged the BJP’s official account and Devendra Fadnavis in his post, seeking action in the matter.Actor Imran Khan was among several people detained by Mumbai Police on Saturday while protesting near Nana Chowk in south Mumbai in solidarity with the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) demonstration in New Delhi, officials said.The protesters were detained near Nana Chowk junction in Gamdevi, close to Grant Road railway station. Police personnel put them in vans and took them away.August Kranti Maidan was placed under heavy security, with barricades erected and all roads leading to the ground closed to restrict access.The maidan remained shut from the morning, with police vans and dozens of personnel stationed outside its gates. People were not allowed to approach the entrance.Hundreds of police personnel, including women officers and members of the Maharashtra State Security Corporation, were deployed in the area. Additional police vans were brought to Gamdevi to transport the detained protesters.Police also stopped passersby and questioned them about their destinations. Some residents expressed displeasure over being stopped and questioned.Personnel from a nearby police station were called in to assist with security arrangements. The zonal deputy commissioner of police and an additional police commissioner were also present at the spot.
