Becoming, an exhibition curated by Siddhi Shailendra at Akar Prakar’s new gallery space in Delhi, brings together works by C. Douglas, Debasish Mukherjee, Ganesh Haloi, Jayashree Chakravarty, Leang Seckon and Manish Pushkale.

The exhibition looks at artistic evolution through six distinct practices, bringing together works that engage with abstraction, memory, landscape, ecology, architecture and history. The artists’ practices have developed over several decades, with the exhibition examining how visual languages shift through sustained engagement with material, experience and form.
Poulomi Dey and Abhijit Lath
Rather than following a single theme, Becoming places the six practices in dialogue, drawing out similarities and differences in the ways the artists approach material, memory and their surroundings.
Gigi Scaria and Debasish Mukherjee
The new gallery space has been designed by architect Ashish Karode. The space uses a restrained material palette, non-reflective finishes and museum-grade lighting, with an adaptable layout designed to accommodate different scales and formats of work, including painting, sculpture, installations and moving-image practices.

Akar Prakar was founded by Reena Lath and Abhijit Lath in 2004. Speaking about the new space, founders Reena Lath and Abhijit Lath say: “We are glad to move into the next phase of our journey with a renewed vision to include more younger voices and practices while keeping our roots of three generations of building collections in place. Along with a new space, our refreshed identity signifies a more free-flowing approach, much like the gallery itself, envisioned to accommodate fresh voices in contemporary art.“
