Ahmedabad: A dispute over giving way to traffic near Pankor Naka in the Old City area escalated into a violent attack at a cloth shop on Thursday evening, with more than 10 men allegedly assaulting three persons and vandalising property. The incident prompted a shutdown in the city’s prominent textile market on Friday, as traders demanded strict action against the accused.According to a complaint lodged with Karanj police, the incident began around 3pm on Thursday when a 22-year-old man got into an argument with the rider of an Activa near Pankor Naka amid heavy traffic. The complainant alleged that the rider and his pillion assaulted him before leaving the spot.The complaint stated that around 7pm, five youths allegedly entered the cloth shop owned by the victim’s uncle in Dhalgarwad and attacked him. When the uncle and his son intervened, the group allegedly assaulted all three, dragging them onto the road.The uncle sustained a head injury and required two stitches, while the nephew suffered injuries to his head, face, and neck.The complainant further alleged that several more youths joined the attack, abused the victims, and damaged the shop. One of the assailants, allegedly armed with a knife, reportedly threatened to kill them.Karanj police registered an FIR against five identified and seven unidentified persons for unlawful assembly, rioting and other charges.
