Ahead of CJP stir, Delhi Police asks DMRC to close 57 metro stations from 9pm
Proposed restrictions are scheduled to begin at 9 pm on Friday

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Friday requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to consider closing the entry and exit gates of 57 metro stations from 9 pm on October 9 in view of proposed protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations in the New Delhi district on October 10.In a letter dated October 8, the police cited the possibility of unruly crowd movement towards sensitive locations.The letter also proposed reducing the frequency of metro trains passing through the identified stations. The proposed restrictions would remain in force on October 10 until the situation returns to normal.The stations listed in the communication span several metro corridors and include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Mandi House, Supreme Court, New Delhi, Kashmere Gate, Jama Masjid, Chawri Bazar, Karol Bagh, Vishwavidyalaya, Hauz Khas, INA, Lajpat Nagar, Sarai Kale Khan-Nizamuddin, Jamia Millia Islamia, Okhla Vihar, Rithala, Rohini East, Rohini West, Shahdara, Welcome and Maujpur, among others.The list also includes stations such as Inderlok, Seelampur, Jafrabad, Yamuna Vihar, Azadpur, Majlis Park and Haiderpur Badli Mor.The police have requested the DMRC to issue necessary directions to the concerned officers and staff to implement appropriate measures.
