Ahmedabad: Gujarat education department issued a revised resolution restructuring the Ahmedabad District Education Officer (DEO) office by dividing it into East and West zones, while also merging additional schools from rural Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar jurisdictions.According to the new arrangement, 378 schools from Ahmedabad rural and 39 schools from Gandhinagar, previously outside the city DEO’s direct administration, have now been incorporated into the Ahmedabad East and West offices. Earlier, the division covered 1,892 schools under the city DEO. However, with the latest revision, the total number of schools increased to 2,374.Out of these, 1,483 schools have been assigned to the East DEO office, including 109 from Ahmedabad rural and three from Gandhinagar. West DEO office will oversee 891 schools, including 299 from Ahmedabad rural and 36 from Gandhinagar. The revised decision comes after the state govt acknowledged flaws in the earlier resolution issued on Nov 17, 2025, which led to discrepancies due to its failure to account for municipal boundaries. The new division was carried out based on Sabarmati river and municipal limits.Similar restructuring has been implemented across six districts, increasing the total number of schools under reorganised DEO offices from 7,272 to 7,856 statewide.
