Sardesai flags BLOs’ lack of clarity on voter enrolment rules

Panaji: Goa Forward Party president and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Sunday sought fresh training for booth-level officers (BLOs), alleging they lacked clarity about voter enrolment procedures at camps across Goa.Sardesai informed South Goa Collector Egna Cleetus that a BLO at Borda had refused to enrol a voter shifting from Margao constituency to Fatorda constituency, claiming a three-month gap was required for an address change. Sardesai said no such legal requirement existed and urged govt to clarify the process. He also raised concerns over enrolment delays and demanded another special camp next Sunday after BLOs were trained to register left-out and young voters and those who had shifted residence.Sardesai separately urged govt authorities to ensure the safety of residents of Nilgiri Apartments in Fatorda after two balconies collapsed. He demanded that residents be moved to a safe location until alternative arrangements were made.Margao Municipal Complex had classified the 40-year-old structure as dangerous three years ago, saying it could collapse. Sardesai accused the local councillor of ignoring residents’ plight. He said authorities should openly discuss residents’ redevelopment proposal and rehabilitate them through a private builder. He also suggested increasing the floor area ratio to facilitate redevelopment of the residential apartments.
