Man arrested for distributing 'poisonous capsules' as painkillers during religious procession in Mumbai

MUMBAI: A man was arrested by the Byculla Police during a religious procession on Friday after he was allegedly found distributing capsules to participants under suspicious circumstances. The accused, identified as Faiyyaz Premji, was arrested. He claimed that the tablets were painkillers. However, one person who consumed a tablet reportedly developed vomiting and other symptoms of discomfort. Police recovered 1,400 capsules of zinc phosphate from his possession. The accused claimed that he had ordered them from an online pharmacy. Police immediately intervened and stopped the distribution of the capsules, preventing them from being consumed by more people.Based on the victim’s complaint, the Byculla Police have registered a case under Section 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
